You have booked your first tandem paragliding flight with Summit Paragliding — congratulations! Here’s exactly what to expect, from your arrival at Mount Yamaska to landing, so you can fully enjoy this unforgettable experience.
Quick answer: What to expect during a tandem flight?
A tandem paragliding flight lasts on average 15 minutes depending on the chosen option. You fly attached to a certified ACVL instructor. Takeoff is done by running a few steps, and landing is smooth on both feet. No prior experience is necessary. The duration of the flight depends on the weather, which we cannot control, but the pilots will do their best to prolong the enjoyment.
Before the flight: Arrival at Mount Yamaska
Arrive at the meeting point 30 minutes before the scheduled time. Our team will welcome you and present the day's program. Your pilot-instructor will assess the weather conditions — wind, clouds, thermals — to confirm that the conditions are optimal for your flight.
Tip:Check with us the day before to see real-time conditions at Mount Yamaska.
The equipment: What Summit Paragliding provides you
All flight equipment is provided for you:
- Tandem harness— specifically designed for flights with a passenger, adjusted to your body shape
- Helmet— certified protection, fitted to your head
- Photo/video option— a camera captures your flight so you can relive the experience
On your part, wear closed shoes with good ankle support (running shoes or hiking boots). Absolutely avoid sandals, flip-flops, or high-heeled shoes. Dress according to the conditions, and if the conditions allow us to gain altitude, it will be cooler.
The safety briefing
Before each flight, your pilot will give you a complete briefing:
- How to position yourself during takeoff
- Sitting position in the harness during the flight
- How to prepare for landing
- What to do if you feel uncomfortable during the flight
Takeoff: The first seconds in the air
Takeoff is often the most intense — and memorable! At a signal from your pilot, you run together down the slope. In a few seconds, your feet leave the ground and you are in the air. The ascent is smooth and gradual. Most passengers describe this moment as a feeling of absolute lightness.
The flight: pure happiness
In flight, your pilot fully manages the controls. Your only role is to enjoy. Depending on the chosen package:
- Discovery Flight: a calm discovery flight, ideal for families and those sensitive to heights.
- Thrill Flight: dynamic turns, wingover, rapid ascents. For adrenaline enthusiasts.
- Sunset Flight: flight at the end of the day with golden lights over the Quebec countryside. Magical.
The landing
Paragliding landing is one of the softest there is — much softer than a parachute jump, for example. Your pilot will warn you a few minutes in advance. All you have to do is listen to your pilot who will indicate the best way to land. Usually passengers land on their feet, like stepping off a cloud. Most passengers are surprised by the softness of the landing.
After the flight: Photos, videos
If you opted for the photo/video package, your pilot will hand you the files on site. Many of our clients order these souvenirs — it's a fantastic way to share the experience with family and friends.
